Lid-close support is the core feature. The candidate passes automated recovery tests; signing, notarization, and a real closed-lid MacBook acceptance test are still required for the first download.
Install
Grindset is currently available as source. Build with a current Xcode toolchain using the instructions on GitHub. Internal CI builds are development artifacts.
The planned public download supports macOS 13 or newer on Apple Silicon and Intel. A successful build does not establish support on every MacBook or macOS version.
Get started
Start your local agent or long-running task. Click the cup to Lock In, approve the administrator prompt, and wait for “Working with lid closed” before closing the laptop.
Click the cup again to Let It Sleep. Right-click for 30-minute, 1-hour, 2-hour, or 4-hour sessions. Every Lock In session includes lid-close protection.
Grindset keeps the Mac awake so work can continue on an available network. Leaving Wi-Fi coverage still disconnects it. Keep the running laptop ventilated; a closed bag is not suitable for sustained workloads.
Permissions and privacy
An administrator prompt starts a temporary sleep guard for each session. No permanent privileged service is installed.
Camera access is requested only for Coffee Break. Photos stay on your Desktop; saving one may request Desktop access. Notifications are optional. The calendar does not access events. There is no account or analytics service.
Recovery and uninstall
Stopping, timer expiry, low battery, quitting, or force-quitting the app tells the independent guard to restore normal sleep. Failed restoration is retried until confirmed.
An override already enabled by another app is left alone. Killing the guard itself with SIGKILL cannot be recovered by that guard. If sleep remains disabled, run “sudo pmset -a disablesleep 0” in Terminal.
Before uninstalling, stop the session, wait for normal sleep to be restored, quit, then delete Grindset.
Release information and changes
Candidate: every Lock In action now includes guarded lid-close work; added an independent cleanup process, universal build, icon, and release checks. No public binary has been promoted.

Include your app version, Mac model, macOS version, what you expected, and what happened. Remove personal information from logs and screenshots.
