The current firstdrop is Developer ID signed but not notarized. It does not yet meet the new public-download standard. A notarized replacement is in preparation; the existing preview remains available.
Install
Unzip FX Talk and move it to Applications. The current package is Apple Silicon only and declares macOS 13 or newer; hardware acceptance was recorded on an M4 MacBook Air running macOS 15.6.1.
The current firstdrop may be blocked by macOS because it is not notarized. The next public candidate must pass normal downloaded-app verification.
Get started
Use an FX-MIC on batteries, connected by its curly 3.5 mm cable through a USB audio input adapter. Direct USB is disconnected during normal use.
Grant Microphone and Accessibility permissions, then configure the shortcut for your dictation app. Hold the paddle to dictate; release to finish. The orange button presses Enter in the active app.
See the source repository for firmware 1.0.9 setup and the tested hardware arrangement. FX Talk controls your dictation app; it does not transcribe speech itself.
Permissions and privacy
Audio control signals are decoded locally. FX Talk does not save recordings, read draft text, or send network requests. Your chosen dictation app has its own privacy behavior.
Recovery and uninstall
If the microphone adapter disconnects or controls stop responding, reconnect it, reopen FX Talk, and check the selected input and permissions.
Quit FX Talk before removing it from Applications. You can remove its Accessibility permission in System Settings.
Release information and changes
0.4.0: first public preview with an app archive, setup kit, notices, and checksums. The next package adds hardened signing and notarization through the shared release path.
